LAFB stands for Left anterior fascicular block, a cardiology abbreviation.
Block of the anterior fascicle of the left bundle branch, producing marked left axis deviation (usually beyond -45 degrees) with small q waves in I and aVL and a normal or only slightly widened QRS.
Example: ECG: sinus rhythm, LAFB, otherwise normal; no change from prior tracing.
Usage notes
Also called left anterior hemiblock (LAHB). The anterior fascicle is thin and supplied by a single artery, so it fails more often than the broad posterior fascicle, whose block (LPFB) is rare. RBBB plus LAFB is a common bifascicular block; adding first-degree AV block is loosely called "trifascicular block."
