IPAWS stands for Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, an emergency services abbreviation.
FEMA-run system that lets authorized federal, state, local, tribal and territorial authorities send warnings through the Emergency Alert System, Wireless Emergency Alerts, NOAA Weather Radio and other channels from a single interface.
Example: The county used IPAWS to send evacuation orders to phones and TV at the same time.
Usage notes
More than 1,500 alerting authorities use IPAWS. Training and authorization are required to send alerts. False alerts, such as Hawaii's 2018 missile alert, led to stronger safeguards.
