IMT stands for Incident management team, an emergency services abbreviation.
Group of trained personnel who fill the command and general staff roles of the Incident Command System for complex, long-running incidents such as major wildfires, hurricanes and large planned events.
Example: A Type 1 IMT took over the wildfire on day four as it grew past 50,000 acres.
Usage notes
Teams are typed from 1 (most complex, national level) to 5 (local), though federal wildland teams have been reorganized as complex IMTs. They can be deployed across state lines through mutual aid. Their members are drawn from many agencies.
