ICF stands for Informed consent form, a medical research abbreviation.
Document that explains a study's purpose, procedures, risks, benefits, alternatives, confidentiality protections and voluntary nature, signed by a participant to record agreement. The form supports, but does not replace, the consent conversation with study staff.
Example: Version 3 ICF approved; all active participants must reconsent at their next visit.
Usage notes
The revised US Common Rule requires a concise key-information section at the start of consent forms. Participants can withdraw at any time without penalty. Electronic consent and translated short forms for non-English speakers are allowed under specific conditions. ICF also abbreviates the WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health.
