Finland's main airport and Finnair's hub, located in Vantaa about 17 kilometers north of Helsinki. It built its business on fast connections between Europe and Asia.
Example: Finnair's HEL hub makes it easy to fly from Tokyo to Stockholm with one quick connection.
ICAO code EFHK. Also called Helsinki-Vantaa. Great-circle routes over the Arctic made Helsinki a short connecting point between Europe and East Asia, though the closure of Russian airspace to EU airlines from 2022 lengthened many of those flights. A rail link opened in 2015.
