Usage notes
Written by Werner Koch and first released in 1999 as part of the GNU Project; it is also called GnuPG, and the command is gpg. It underpins package verification in Debian, Fedora and other distributions. A 2015 report that Koch was nearly out of money prompted donations from Facebook, Stripe and the Linux Foundation.
