Usage notes

Usually written in capitals without periods; F.Y.I. appears in older memos. Communication coaches warn that a bare "FYI" forward can read as curt or passive-aggressive, so adding a line of context helps. It contrasts with FYA ("for your action"), which does call for a response. As a noun, "an FYI" means a brief informational note.
