1. Full truckload
Business & Finance · Logistics, Supply Chain & Trade Abbreviations
Trucking service in which one shipper's goods fill, or pay for, an entire trailer, moving directly from pickup to delivery without transfer at terminals. It is faster and cheaper per unit than LTL for large shipments.
Example: At 22 pallets, it's cheaper to book an FTL than pay LTL rates.
Also called truckload (TL). A standard 53-foot US dry van holds about 26 standard pallets on the floor, and federal rules generally cap gross vehicle weight on interstates at 80,000 pounds. Spot rates for FTL loads are posted on load boards and fluctuate with demand.
2. For the loss
Texting & Internet Slang · Texting and Chat Abbreviations
Ironic tag marking something as a failure or a bad choice, the opposite of FTW. Seen in comments, tweets and gaming chat, as in "Monday mornings ftl."
Example: Free shipping that takes six weeks to arrive, ftl.
Much rarer than FTW. In science fiction and gaming, FTL more often means "faster than light," as in the 2012 indie game FTL: Faster Than Light, so the context of the sentence decides.
