eRx stands for Electronic prescription, a prescription abbreviation.
Prescription created in the prescriber's software and transmitted directly to a pharmacy's computer system through a network such as Surescripts, replacing paper, phone and fax. It reduces handwriting errors and allows automatic checks for interactions and coverage.
Example: The eRx went to the CVS on Main Street; it should be ready in an hour.
Usage notes
Also written e-Rx or e-prescribing. New York required nearly all prescriptions to be sent electronically from March 2016, and many other states followed. Pharmacies can still receive a "transfer" of an eRx to another location if the patient asks.
