DQN stands for Deep Q-network, an artificial intelligence abbreviation.
A reinforcement learning method that uses a deep neural network to estimate the value of each action in each state, learning to play video games directly from raw screen pixels. It showed that deep learning and RL could be combined at scale.
Example: The DQN learned Breakout and discovered the trick of tunneling behind the bricks.
Usage notes
Developed by DeepMind and published in Nature in 2015, after a 2013 preprint, it reached human-level play on many Atari 2600 games. Its key ideas were experience replay and a separate target network. Google acquired DeepMind in 2014, partly on the strength of this work.
