DMM stands for Digital multimeter, an electronics & electrical abbreviation.
Handheld or bench instrument that measures voltage, current and resistance and often continuity, capacitance, frequency, temperature and diode tests, showing results on a digital display. A DMM is the most basic tool for electricians, technicians and hobbyists.
Example: Set the DMM to DC volts and check that the battery reads above 12.4 V.
Usage notes
Safety ratings from CAT I to CAT IV, defined in IEC 61010, indicate where a meter can be used safely, with CAT III and IV required for building wiring and service entrances. Auto-ranging meters select the range automatically. Older analog meters with needles are called VOMs (volt-ohm-milliammeters).
