Largest hub of American Airlines, whose headquarters is next door in Fort Worth, located midway between Dallas and Fort Worth. Covering about 27 square miles, the airport is larger than Manhattan and has its own police and fire departments; it ranked among the world's three busiest airports in the early 2020s.

ICAO code KDFW. Opened in January 1974 after federal officials pressed the rival cities to build a single regional airport.
