DAG stands for Directed acyclic graph, a data & database abbreviation.
A graph whose edges have a direction and contain no cycles, used to model tasks that must run in dependency order. Workflow tools such as Apache Airflow define data pipelines as DAGs of tasks.
Example: The Airflow DAG runs extract, then three transforms in parallel, then the load task.
Usage notes
Build systems, spreadsheet recalculation, Git commit history and Spark execution plans are also DAGs, and topological sorting finds a valid execution order. Some cryptocurrency projects, such as IOTA, use DAG-based ledgers instead of a linear blockchain. Pronounced as the word "dag".
