1. Combined spinal-epidural
Medical · Anesthesia Abbreviations
Neuraxial technique in which an epidural needle is placed, a thin spinal needle is passed through it to inject a small dose into the cerebrospinal fluid, and an epidural catheter is then threaded for continued medication. It combines the rapid onset of a spinal with the flexibility of an epidural.
Example: CSE for labor analgesia at 4 cm; comfortable within 5 minutes.
Popular in obstetrics and in some orthopedic and urologic surgery. The needle-through-needle technique uses a long, fine pencil-point spinal needle to reduce headache risk. A related approach, the dural puncture epidural, punctures the dura without injecting spinal medication.
2. Committee on Special Education
Education & Academia · K-12 Education Abbreviations
New York State name for the district team that evaluates students, determines eligibility and develops IEPs for school-age children. Preschool children are served by a separate Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE).
Example: The CSE meeting will review the new psychological evaluation and update the IEP.
In New York City, CSE functions are carried out by school-based teams and district offices. Parents may request a CSE meeting at any time in writing. CSE also abbreviates computer science and engineering in university contexts.
