Professional undergraduate music degree in performance, composition, music education, theory or music therapy, with intensive private lessons, ensembles and juried recitals. Conservatories such as Juilliard and the Royal Academy of Music and many university music schools award it.
Example: Her BMus in vocal performance ended with a full-length senior recital.
Usage notes
Many American schools, including Juilliard, abbreviate it BM; British and Canadian universities favor BMus, and a few use Mus.B. A BA in music is a liberal arts degree with fewer performance requirements. Admission depends heavily on an audition in addition to academic records.
