BEA stands for Bureau of Economic Analysis, a US federal agency abbreviation.

Commerce Department statistical agency that produces gross domestic product (GDP), personal income, the PCE price index favored by the Federal Reserve and the international trade and investment accounts. Its quarterly GDP estimates are among the most closely watched economic releases.

Example: BEA's advance estimate showed the economy grew at a 2.4 percent annual rate last quarter.

Usage notes

BEA's national accounts trace back to the 1930s, when economist Simon Kuznets prepared the first official national income estimates for the Senate. Each quarter's GDP is released in three passes, advance, second and third, then revised in later years. Consumer Price Index figures come from a different agency, the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
