BDU stands for Battle Dress Uniform, a military term abbreviation.
Woodland-camouflage combat uniform worn by the US military from the early 1980s until the mid-2000s, when the services replaced it with their own digital and later OCP-pattern uniforms.
Example: Old BDUs from the Army surplus store are still popular for paintball.
Usage notes
A desert version, the Desert Camouflage Uniform, was worn in the 1991 Gulf War and early Iraq War. Veterans of the 1980s and 1990s still call any combat uniform "BDUs." Surplus BDUs remain common in civilian use.
