AWB stands for Air waybill, a logistics, supply chain & trade abbreviation.
Non-negotiable transport document for air cargo, issued by or for the airline, serving as the contract of carriage and receipt for goods. Its 11-digit number, beginning with the airline's three-digit prefix, is used to track the shipment.
Example: Please send the AWB number so we can track the samples into Chicago.
Usage notes
Unlike an ocean bill of lading, an AWB is never a document of title. The industry has largely moved to electronic air waybills (e-AWB) under IATA standards. Forwarders issue house air waybills to shippers under the airline's master air waybill.
