ApoB stands for Apolipoprotein B, a laboratory test abbreviation.
Main structural protein of LDL, VLDL, intermediate-density lipoprotein and Lp(a) particles, with exactly one molecule per particle, so the level counts atherogenic particles directly. A value of 130 mg/dL or higher is listed as a risk-enhancing factor in US cholesterol guidelines.
Example: ApoB 128 despite LDL 96: discordance suggests many small, dense particles.
Usage notes
European guidelines favor apoB as a more accurate risk marker than LDL cholesterol, particularly in diabetes, obesity and high triglycerides. In the US it is often written apoB or Apo B and ordered as an add-on to the lipid panel. Apolipoprotein B-100 (liver) is the measured form; B-48 belongs to intestinal chylomicrons.
