anti-CCP stands for Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody, a laboratory test abbreviation.
Autoantibody test with high specificity, around 95 percent, for rheumatoid arthritis, used alongside rheumatoid factor in the workup of inflammatory arthritis. Antibodies can appear years before joint symptoms and predict more aggressive, erosive disease.
Example: Anti-CCP greater than 250 U/mL; early aggressive DMARD therapy planned.
Usage notes
Part of the family of anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA). Citrullination is a protein modification promoted by smoking and periodontal inflammation, which helps explain the link between smoking and seropositive rheumatoid arthritis. A positive anti-CCP with a negative RF is still meaningful, since the two tests overlap only partly.
