AMRAAM stands for Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile, a weapon and military equipment abbreviation.
AIM-120 radar-guided air-to-air missile, the primary beyond-visual-range weapon of US and allied fighters, which guides itself with its own radar in the final phase of flight.
Example: The F-15 fired an AMRAAM at the drone from more than 20 miles away.
Usage notes
Built by Raytheon (now RTX), the AMRAAM entered service in the early 1990s and is nicknamed "Slammer." It is also used in the ground-based NASAMS air defense system. Pilots announce its launch with the brevity code "Fox Three."
