Stands forAuthor's note
CategoriesTexting & Internet Slang

A/N stands for Author's note, a fandom and fan fiction abbreviation.

Comment from a fan fiction author placed before or after a chapter, giving updates, thanking readers, explaining choices or answering reviews.

Example: A/N: sorry for the long wait, finals are over and chapter 9 is here!

Usage notes

Long A/Ns were a hallmark of 2000s FanFiction.Net stories and are often affectionately mocked. AO3 has separate fields for beginning and end notes. Readers sometimes skip them, so authors keep important warnings in tags as well.
