3MF stands for 3D Manufacturing Format, a file format abbreviation.
Open 3D printing file format that stores geometry, colors, materials, units, print settings and multiple objects in one ZIP-based package, addressing the limits of STL.
Example: The Bambu printer project is saved as a 3MF that includes the plate layout and filament settings.
Usage notes
A consortium led by Microsoft launched 3MF in 2015, with members including HP, Autodesk and other 3D printing companies. Slicers such as PrusaSlicer, Cura, OrcaSlicer and Bambu Studio use it for project files. Because units are explicit, 3MF avoids the classic STL problem of a model printing at the wrong scale.
