1080p stands for 1080 progressive scan, a consumer electronics abbreviation.

Video format of 1920 by 1080 pixels in which every line of each frame is drawn in a single pass (progressive scan). It is the standard for Blu-ray discs, Full HD TVs and much online video.

Example: Set the stream to 1080p if your connection can handle about 5 Mbit/s.

Usage notes

The "p" contrasts with "i" for interlaced, as in 1080i, where odd and even lines alternate in separate fields; in the US, CBS and NBC broadcast in 1080i while ABC and Fox chose 720p. Progressive scan avoids flickering lines on motion and suits flat-panel displays. The term is often used interchangeably with Full HD and FHD.
