YCC stands for Yield curve control, an economics abbreviation.
Monetary policy in which a central bank targets a specific yield on government bonds of a particular maturity, buying or selling as many bonds as needed to hold the yield at its target. It caps long-term borrowing costs.
Example: Under YCC, the Bank of Japan pledged to keep 10-year yields around zero.
Usage notes
The Bank of Japan introduced YCC in 2016 and ended it in March 2024. The Reserve Bank of Australia targeted a three-year yield from 2020 until abruptly abandoning the target in late 2021. The US Federal Reserve capped Treasury yields during and after World War II, until the 1951 Treasury-Fed Accord.
