WSUS stands for Windows Server Update Services, a software abbreviation.
Microsoft server role that lets organizations download, approve and distribute Windows updates to their own computers, controlling which patches install and when.
Example: Approve the cumulative update in WSUS so it reaches the pilot group first.
Usage notes
WSUS replaced Software Update Services in 2005. Microsoft announced its deprecation in 2024: it remains available but receives no new features, as customers are steered toward cloud tools such as Windows Autopatch and Intune. Administrators usually point client PCs at the internal server through Group Policy.
