1. Wheelchair

Medical · Rehabilitation Abbreviations

Mobility device used by patients who cannot walk safely or far, propelled by the user, a helper or a motor. Rehab notes record wheelchair type, fit, propulsion and transfer method.

Example: Pt propels w/c 150 ft with BUE, Mod I with brakes.

Also written WC or W/C. Manual wheelchairs range from standard hospital chairs to custom lightweight models fitted by seating specialists. Power wheelchairs and scooters require documented mobility needs for Medicare coverage. Pressure-relieving cushions protect skin in long-term users.

2. Week commencing

Writing & Everyday · Email and Office Abbreviations

Identifies a week by the date of its first day, usually a Monday, in schedules, rotas and planning documents. It is chiefly British and Australian.

Example: Interviews will take place w/c 14 April, so please keep that week as free as possible.

The usual American equivalent is "week of." A common British variant is w/b ("week beginning"), and the counterpart w/e means "week ending," used for timesheets and pay periods. Because weeks may be counted from Sunday or Monday, giving the exact date avoids confusion.
