1. Ultimate ability

Texting & Internet Slang · Gaming Slang Abbreviations

A character's most powerful ability, available only after charging a meter or waiting through a long cooldown, and often decisive in team fights. Used in Overwatch, Valorant, League of Legends, Apex Legends and similar hero-based games.

Example: Their Zarya ult is coming, pop shields and spread out!

Teams coordinate "ult combos" by stacking several ultimates at once, and track the "ult economy" to know which side has more ready. In League of Legends the ultimate is bound to the R key, so players also say "R." Calling out enemy ult usage is basic team communication.

2. Ultimo mense (last month) (ult.)

Writing & Everyday · Latin Abbreviations

Refers to a day in the previous month in traditional business letters, as in "your letter of the 28th ult." It allowed writers to cite earlier correspondence compactly.

Example: In reply to your favor of the 28th ult., we regret that the goods cannot be shipped before March.

From Latin ultimo, "in the last," with mense (month) understood. Its siblings are inst. for the current month and prox. for the next. Old newspapers used it in shipping, court and obituary columns, which is where most modern readers meet it. Today ult. is more often a gaming clipping of "ultimate," which is unrelated.
