UBE stands for Uniform Bar Examination, a legal profession abbreviation.
Standardized bar exam prepared by the National Conference of Bar Examiners and adopted by about 40 US jurisdictions, producing a score that can be transferred to other UBE jurisdictions. It combines the MBE (50 percent), the Multistate Essay Examination (30 percent) and the Multistate Performance Test (20 percent).
Example: With a UBE score of 280, he could seek admission in New York and Colorado without retaking the exam.
Usage notes
First administered in Missouri and North Dakota in February 2011. Each jurisdiction sets its own minimum score, from 260 to 270 on a 400-point scale, and may add a local law course or test. California and Florida never adopted it. NCBE's NextGen bar exam, which debuted in July 2026, is meant to replace the UBE over time.
