Tex. stands for Texas, a US state traditional abbreviation.

Traditional abbreviation of Texas, used by the Government Publishing Office, The Bluebook (Tex. Penal Code, Tex. Crim. App.) and older newspapers. AP dropped it: Texas is one of eight states AP never abbreviates, so AP datelines read AUSTIN, Texas.

Usage notes

Tex. is still common in Texas legal writing, in case citations from the Texas Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeals, and in museum and herbarium labels. TX has been the postal code since 1963. Tex-Mex uses the same clipping.
