SVOD stands for Subscription video on demand, a film, television and theater abbreviation.

Streaming model in which viewers pay a recurring fee for unlimited access to a library, as with Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max. Many SVOD services now also offer cheaper tiers with ads.

Example: The studio sold the series to an SVOD platform rather than a broadcaster.

Usage notes

Netflix began streaming in 2007 and popularized SVOD worldwide. The addition of ad tiers from 2022 blurred the line with AVOD. Pronounced "S-VOD".
