SPST stands for Single-pole, single-throw, an electronics & electrical abbreviation.
Simplest type of switch, which makes or breaks one circuit, like an ordinary on-off light switch. "Pole" counts the separate circuits a switch controls, and "throw" counts the positions each pole can connect to.
Example: An SPST rocker switch on the power cord turns the lamp on and off.
Usage notes
SPST switches can be normally open or normally closed. In North American house wiring, a single-pole switch controls a light from one location, while three-way switches, which are SPDT, allow control from two places.
