QNS stands for Quantity not sufficient, a laboratory test abbreviation.
Laboratory comment indicating that a specimen did not contain enough volume to perform the requested test, so a new sample must be collected. It is common with pediatric draws, difficult venipunctures and underfilled light-blue citrate tubes, which must be filled close to the line for accurate coagulation results.
Example: Coag tube QNS; redraw for PT/INR before the procedure.
Usage notes
Related rejection reasons include hemolyzed, clotted, mislabeled and "insufficient sample". Labs publish minimum volumes for each test, and drawing extra tubes in children is avoided because of the small blood volume involved. Pronounced as letters.
