PvP stands for Player versus player, a gaming slang abbreviation also used in entertainment.
Game content or combat in which human players fight each other, as opposed to fighting computer-controlled enemies. Describes servers, modes, zones and whole games.
Example: I skip the dungeons and spend all my time in PvP arenas.
Usage notes
MMORPGs such as Ultima Online and World of Warcraft offered separate PvP servers where players could attack each other in open zones. Competitive shooters and MOBAs are essentially PvP games. Some players prefer PvE to avoid the stress of PvP. The lowercase v is the conventional spelling.
