1. Polysomnography

Overnight in-laboratory sleep study recording brain waves, eye movements, muscle activity, airflow, breathing effort, oxygen saturation, heart rhythm and leg movements. It is the reference standard for diagnosing sleep apnea, narcolepsy, REM sleep behavior disorder and other sleep disorders.
Example: Split-night PSG: AHI 48 in the first half, CPAP titrated to 11 cm H2O in the second.
A "split-night" study diagnoses sleep apnea in the first part of the night and adjusts CPAP in the second. Video recording helps characterize parasomnias and nocturnal seizures. PSG is preferred over home testing for patients with significant heart or lung disease, neuromuscular disease or suspected disorders other than obstructive apnea. Abbreviated PSG; also called a sleep study.
2. Platoon sergeant

Senior NCO of an Army platoon, usually a sergeant first class, who advises the lieutenant platoon leader and manages training, logistics, discipline and soldier welfare.
Example: Ask the PSG for the updated sensitive items list before we roll out.
The platoon sergeant takes command if the platoon leader is absent. A common Army saying holds that a good platoon sergeant trains a new lieutenant as well as the platoon. In European soccer, PSG is Paris Saint-Germain, the much more widely known meaning.
