POH stands for Pilot's operating handbook, an aviation abbreviation.
Manufacturer's manual for a specific aircraft model, containing limitations, normal and emergency procedures, performance charts, weight-and-balance data and systems descriptions. For most modern light aircraft it incorporates the FAA-approved airplane flight manual and must be on board.
Example: Check the POH for the short-field takeoff distance before trying that 1,800-foot strip with four people.
Usage notes
Light-aircraft POHs follow a standard General Aviation Manufacturers Association layout, with numbered sections for general information, limitations, emergency procedures, normal procedures, performance, weight and balance, systems, servicing and supplements. Larger aircraft use an AFM (airplane flight manual) plus operator manuals.
