PFLAG stands for PFLAG (formerly Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), a nonprofit abbreviation.
National organization of LGBTQ people, their parents, families and allies that offers peer support groups, education and advocacy through hundreds of local chapters.
Example: Her parents started attending PFLAG meetings after she came out.
Usage notes
It grew from a 1973 meeting organized by Jeanne Manford, who had marched alongside her gay son in a New York pride parade in 1972. The national organization formed in 1982. It officially adopted the initials PFLAG as its name in 2014 to be inclusive of the whole LGBTQ community.
