Usage notes

ICAO code KORD. The code comes from Orchard Field: during World War II Douglas built C-54 transports in a plant at Orchard Place, and the field kept the ORD code after it was renamed in 1949 for Lt. Cmdr. Edward "Butch" O'Hare, the first US naval aviator awarded the Medal of Honor in World War II. O'Hare was the world's busiest airport by passengers from the early 1960s until Atlanta overtook it in 1998.
