OBO
Stands forOr best offer
CategoriesWriting & Everyday

OBO stands for Or best offer, a classified ad abbreviation also used in business and texting.

Follows an asking price in classified ads to show that the seller will consider lower offers, as in "$300 OBO." It signals that the price is negotiable.

Example: Mountain bike, barely used, $350 OBO; cash only, local pickup.

Usage notes

OBO invites haggling, while "firm" means the price is not negotiable. The British equivalent is ONO, "or nearest offer." eBay offers a "Best Offer" button for the same purpose. Sellers often set an OBO price somewhat above what they expect to accept.
