NGFF stands for Next Generation Form Factor, a computer hardware abbreviation.
Original name of the M.2 expansion-card standard, developed by Intel and others as a smaller successor to mSATA and mini PCIe cards in thin laptops.
Example: Some early Wi-Fi cards were listed as NGFF modules before the M.2 name caught on.
Usage notes
The specification was renamed M.2 in 2013, but NGFF still appears in product listings, especially for Wi-Fi cards and enclosures. Like M.2, the name describes the physical format, not the protocol, so an NGFF slot may support SATA, PCIe or USB depending on its key and wiring.
