NES stands for Nintendo Entertainment System, a video game abbreviation.

Nintendo's 8-bit home console, released in North America in 1985, which revived the US video game market after the 1983 crash. Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Metroid debuted on it.

Example: My first console was an NES with Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt.

Usage notes

Released in Japan in 1983 as the Family Computer, or Famicom. Nintendo designed the US version to look like a VCR-style "entertainment system" rather than a toy. The NES Classic Edition, a miniature reissue, appeared in 2016.
