N.E.3d stands for North Eastern Reporter, Third Series, a legal citation abbreviation.

Current series of West's North Eastern Reporter, covering appellate decisions from Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Ohio and the New York Court of Appeals. It replaced N.E.2d in the 2010s and is where recent decisions from those states are printed.

Example: The Illinois Supreme Court's biometric privacy ruling is cited to N.E.3d alongside its public-domain citation.

Usage notes

New York's intermediate and trial court decisions do not appear in the North Eastern Reporter; they are in the New York Supplement (N.Y.S.). Illinois decisions since 2011 carry public-domain citations such as "2019 IL 123186" alongside the reporter. The first series began in 1885 and N.E.2d in 1936.
