MUE stands for Medication use evaluation, a pharmacy abbreviation.
Hospital quality-improvement method in which pharmacists measure how a drug or class is prescribed, given and monitored against criteria, then act on the findings, for example by changing order sets or educating prescribers.
Example: MUE of IV acetaminophen found 60% of doses could have been oral.
Usage notes
Also called drug use evaluation (DUE). ASHP guidelines describe MUE as a core pharmacy and therapeutics committee activity. Targets usually include high-cost, high-risk or frequently misused drugs. In Medicare billing, MUE stands for medically unlikely edit, an unrelated claims limit.
