MTF stands for Military treatment facility, a military term abbreviation.
Hospital or clinic operated by the military health system, such as a base clinic or a major medical center like Walter Reed, where service members and many beneficiaries receive care.
Example: TRICARE Prime patients must normally book appointments at the MTF before going off base.
Usage notes
MTFs are now managed by the Defense Health Agency rather than by each service. When care is not available at the MTF, patients are referred to civilian providers in the TRICARE network.
