mmol stands for Millimole, a metric and SI unit abbreviation.

A thousandth of a mole, the unit used outside the US for blood glucose (mmol/L), cholesterol, electrolytes and many other lab results. Normal fasting blood glucose is roughly 4 to 5.5 mmol/L.

Example: His blood sugar reading was 6.2 mmol/L before breakfast.

Usage notes

Glucose meters sold in the UK, Canada, Australia and most of Europe display mmol/L, while US meters show mg/dL; multiply mmol/L by 18 to convert. Sodium and potassium are reported in mmol/L, which equals mEq/L for singly charged ions. UK labs report HbA1c in mmol/mol rather than as a percentage.
