MENA stands for Middle East and North Africa, a region abbreviation.
Region of roughly 20 countries from Morocco to Iran, used by the World Bank, the IMF, investors and news organizations. It groups Arabic-speaking North Africa with the Gulf, the Levant and Iran.
Example: Venture funding for MENA startups is concentrated in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Usage notes
Variants include MENAT, which adds Türkiye, and MENAP, which the IMF uses to add Afghanistan and Pakistan. Israel is included in some definitions and not in others. Pronounced MEN-uh.
