MEI stands for Multiengine instructor, an aviation abbreviation.
Flight instructor rating authorizing the holder to teach in airplanes with more than one engine, including engine-failure procedures that keep the aircraft under control above minimum control speed. Many regional airline hires have worked as MEIs.
Example: With her new MEI she can finally teach in the school's Seminole and log valuable twin time.
Usage notes
Formally a multiengine land class rating on the flight instructor certificate. MEIs are in demand because airline applicants often need multiengine experience, and teaching it lets instructors build twin time cheaply. Engine-out training revolves around the sequence "identify, verify, feather."
