A service in which an outside provider's analysts monitor a customer's environment around the clock using EDR or XDR tools, investigate alerts and take response actions such as isolating machines. It gives smaller organizations a security operations center without building one.
Example: Our MDR provider called at 2 a.m. after containing a compromised admin account.
MDR differs from traditional managed security services by focusing on active threat hunting and response rather than device management and alert forwarding. Providers include CrowdStrike, Arctic Wolf and Red Canary. In medicine MDR means multidrug-resistant, as in MDR tuberculosis.
2. Merchant discount rate

Fee a merchant pays on each card or digital payment, expressed as a percentage of the transaction, covering interchange paid to the card issuer, network fees and the acquirer's margin.
Example: The bank quoted a 1.8% MDR on credit card payments.
In India, the government required a zero MDR on UPI and RuPay debit transactions from January 2020, which helped UPI's rapid growth. In the US the same costs are usually called processing fees.
