MBH stands for Thousand BTU per hour, an engineering unit abbreviation.
HVAC engineering shorthand for thousands of BTU per hour, using the Roman numeral M for thousand. Boilers, furnaces and coils on mechanical drawings are rated in MBH, so 100 MBH means 100,000 BTU/h.
Example: Provide a 120 MBH condensing boiler with 95 percent AFUE.
Usage notes
The M comes from Latin mille, the same convention seen in Mcf (thousand cubic feet), and is easily confused with the SI mega- prefix; in MMBtu, MM means a million. Some engineers prefer the clearer kBtu/h. One MBH is about 0.293 kW.
