LLN stands for Law of large numbers, a statistics abbreviation.
The principle that the average of many independent trials converges to the expected value as the number of trials grows. Flip a fair coin enough times and the proportion of heads approaches one half.
Example: By the LLN, the casino's average profit per bet converges to the house edge over millions of wagers.
Usage notes
Jacob Bernoulli proved the first version, published posthumously in 1713. The weak law states convergence in probability and the strong law almost-sure convergence. It does not mean that short-run deviations get balanced out, a misconception known as the gambler's fallacy.
